Paula Carnes

I had just finished teaching a fantastic lesson about Judas Iscariot.. Some in the young adult Sunday school class even had tears in their eyes. Paula, you must be a great teacher, I thought to myself. Then Tom raised his hand. He was sitting near the back of the class. Good, someone has a question. I noticed he had a bit of smirk on his face.

“Yes, Tom?”

“Paula, did you ever consider that maybe Judas Iscariot was one of the good guys?”

“Tom, are you serious? Why would anyone think Judas was a good guy? That makes about as much sense as thinking Hitler was a good guy.”

Tom cringed as if I had aimed a gun at him, but he stuck to his guns. His defense: “In my college Bible course the professor said that Judas was helping Jesus out. You know, getting the prophesies fulfilled, making sure…

Forget What Anyone Else Says! How Does Jesus Christ Define Marriage?

30 Dec

By Dr. Tom Snyder

For the first time in recorded history, our government is trying to change a fundamental social institution and tradition – marriage. Thus, in recent months, courts in Massachusetts, California and Iowa, and now the legislature of Vermont, have decided to allow same-sex marriage.

Forget for a moment the fact that no other society in human history has ever defined marriage in this way and the fact that the United States Constitution does not give such power to the judiciary or our elected representatives, what does Jesus say about marriage?

In Matthew 19:4-6, Jesus says that marriage is for a man and a woman.

“Haven’t you read,” he says, referring to the Book of Genesis, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not tear apart.”

Jesus adds in Mark 7:20-23 that all sex outside of marriage is evil or wicked. Thus, pre-marital sex, adultery, homosexuality, and incestuous sex are all evil.

All true followers of Jesus Christ, therefore, should be adamantly opposed to same-sex marriage and other homosexual behaviors. They are evil and wicked. And, the State, including the courts and elected legislatures, should not force the people to accept or tolerate homosexual behavior or same-sex marriage. For them to do so, as the State Supreme Court in Iowa recently did, is to overstep the constitutional authority given to them by the Founding Fathers in 1787 when the U.S. Constitution was written.

Americans must rise up and stop this re-definition of marriage by misguided, authoritarian, historically ignorant activists, politicians and judges.

For thousands of years, every society on earth and every major religion have defined marriage as something that occurs between a man and a woman. Other than the evil tragedy of mass abortion, actually murders children, there is no other issue that is more important than preserving the traditional, historical and biblical definition of marriage. That’s because marriage is the one traditional institution on earth that offers the best social, moral, psychological, and physical protection of future generations – our children, grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.

Despite all these facts, misguided, authoritarian and wicked activists, politicians and judges are trying to destroy marriage in such a way that obliterates the moral foundations of the Christian, biblical heritage that made the United States so great.

If Americans allow these people to do this, then what other basic moral truths will they want to abolish next?

Karl Marx and his Communist buddy Frederick Engels said that their Communism was the ultimate Humanism and advocated that a humanist society should abolish religion (including the Bible), abolish family, abolish nation, and abolish private property. This is clearly the godless, unholy direction we are headed if we ignore the warnings of Jesus Christ in Matthew 19 and Mark 7:20-23 and make same-sex marriage legal and admirable.

We must stand firmly with Jesus Christ, our Divine Lord and Savior, on this issue. The future of Biblical Christianity, not to mention our society, depends on it.
